BLIGHT

Overview
In an increasingly uninhabitable world where excessive heat waves have triggered global crop blights, mass food shortages, and a humanitarian crisis, the United Coalition of Nations has begun evacuating the remaining population to the safety of orbital outposts. When Jamal returns home from a supply run with an evacuation leaflet for their region, his older brother Abdi refuses to leave, believing that they can weather the storm. Jamal is torn between his loyalty to his brother and his desire to secure a better life for himself. The film, which challenges long-standing negative representations of Somali characters in cinema, premiered at Dances with Films NYC, with additional screenings at the Minneapolis/St. Paul international film festival and OMELETO. The film was acquired by Gun Powder & Sky's DUST sci-fi genre channel.
